Because it doesn’t have as many ferry connections as Mykonos or other islands, scenic Folegandros remains off the beaten path and one of the most relaxing islands in the Cyclades. Still quite rural, it has several quiet beaches and a picturesque main town (Chora) that maintains the traditional Cycladic atmosphere. There is a small beach by the port (Karavostasis), but most explore those closer to the center of the island, some of which can be accessed by infrequent buses or boat. Most are pebbly beaches between cliffs and aren’t yet filled with sunbeds like those in the more popular islands.
The port is in the settlement of Karavostasis. There are several places to stay within walking distance, and a bus stop for buses that take you to Chora, around 3-4km away. From there, there are buses to the most popular beach, Agali (see below).
The Best Beaches in Folegandros

This small beach (also spelled “Angali” and sometimes called “Vathi”) is found on a bay between rocky cliffs. It can be windy, but is quite popular, as it’s faced by taverns for meals with sea views. It can be reached by bus from Chora during the summer season.

A trail from Agali takes you to this beach, about 15 to 20 minutes away. It’s a pleasant scenic walk that leads to a taverna before the final descent to the sand. The beach is only accessible on foot, although some boats also stop by. It’s named after the small church on top of a hill, and its secluded location makes it a clothing-optional beach.
Close to the port of Karavostasis and the settlement of Livadi, this long sandy beach is popular with the younger crowds. It’s also close to the camping site, and offers shade from tamarisk trees.
