It can be said that Paros is Mykonos without the partying and at more reasonable prices (although it has become more expensive in the last few years). Combined with the smaller neighbor Antiparos (a 10-minute ferry ride away, departing from the port of Pounta), it offers one of the best Greek island experiences. It has a variety of beaches for all tastes, and beautiful villages with the traditional Cycladic architecture. Parikia or Chora is the main town, but for the best beaches and restaurants you probably want to stay in the village of Naoussa to the north.
Buses take you around the island, and there are good ferry connections to Athens (Piraeus) and to other islands.
The Best Beaches in Paros

Kolymbithres by Svein-Magne Tunli
Granite rocks sculpted by the wind, in and by the water, make this Paros’ most picturesque beach. Found close to Naoussa, it’s relatively small, so it can get crowded. There are sunbeds and umbrellas, but the coves formed by the rocks are probably the best spots to lie in the sun. The rocks also form natural swimming pools, much enjoyed by children and people of all ages.
Only 2km from the port and the center of Parikia, this is a long and beautiful sandy beach with crystal-clear waters. Those who don’t find an umbrella and sunbed available, have the shade of the eucalyptus and tamarisk trees.
This is a long, sandy continuation of Krios beach. It also has clear waters, and its sunbeds are usually taken over by young crowds.
Reached by bus from Naoussa, this is a popular sandy beach, attracting young tourists. It faces the island of Naxos, and has sunbeds for rent, as well as facilities for water sports, restaurants and bars.

Right before you reach Santa Maria is this “secret” wild beach, hidden about a 10-minute walk from the road. It’s one of the most beautiful and most peaceful in Greece, but note that most people are nude. Its crystal-clear waters form a very scenic semi-circular bay.
There are no umbrellas or sunbeds, but you may be lucky to get one of the few spots with shade by the dunes.
To get there, take the bus that goes to Santa Maria from Naoussa, and ask the driver to stop at Lageri. Walk past a few houses until you reach a white church, and you arrive at the beach.
